Cherry Mobile: From Dual SIM Phones To Filipino Androids

Cherry Mobile's claim to fame was its dual SIM phone offerings that were not only affordable, they also posed a seemingly more durable alternative to the unbranded China Phones that filled the Philippine market.

After a speedy but steady growth thanks to its Dual SIM base, Cherry Mobile cut a new niche for itself: the obscenely affordable Android.

Cherry Mobile didn't just break into the Android scene with phones: it went the whole way and brought tablets with it, too.

Waltzing into the tablet market way before the major companies thought of the Motorola Xoom, the EeePad Transformer or the Acer Iconia, Cherry Mobile was the most affordable and yet most reliable alternative to the iPad, after the Galaxy Tab. With the Galaxy Tab still priced obscenely, and China Androids being too cheap and cheap to the feel to be durable, the Cherry Mobile Superion was the Android tablet with the best value for one's money.

Thanks to future-forward marketing and thinking, Cherry Mobile has since secured a spot for itself as the go-to brand for everyman's Android.

This is their affordable android Lineup:

Here are the phones, so you can see their features:

This is the Cherry Mobile Eclipse 2.2, the most affordable Cherry Mobile Android, to date. At first, it was Cherry Mobile Nova. Then it was Cherry Mobile Cosmo. Now, the Eclipse 2.2 is possible the cheapest branded Android in the Philippine market to date. China Androids are not included, because of the lack of brand and product standard and quality control. Take note, the Eclipse 2.2 is connected to the Internet via WiFi and GPRS only. No 3G for this unit.

Cherry Mobile Cosmo -- The most affordable 3G-capable Cherry Mobile Android. If you're not in a WiFi hotspot, this baby can still connect you online via 3G. You may even let your phone be a portable WiFi hotspot. No need to buy a Mobile Wifi/MiFi/Pocket WiFi unit any longer!

The Cherry Mobile Nova -- The first-ever low-end Cherry Mobile Android. Now updated to Froyo.

Cherry Mobile Orbit -- Dual-SIM Android. Still a little pricey, considering it's "just Cherry Mobile," but just watch out for sales; Cherry Mobile usually drops the price to HALF the list price when they hold their sales. They usually have sales from March to May, then they lower their prices around June, and they hold Christmas sales (with obscene price drops) the whole month of December. Last 2010, Cherry Mobile held a "12 Days of Christmas Sale," then promo prices continued until January, and some of the price drops even became permanent. They also held a Chinese New Year sale. Like their Page on Facebook so you can keep abreast of their promotions and updates.

The Cherry Mobile Magnum is Cherry Mobile's premium Android phone. It originally retailed at Php18,999, but since premium-brand Androids are now dropping their prices lower, understandably, Cherry Mobile would be dropping its prices as well.

The Cherry Mobile Superion tablet now retails for Php 13,999, and is 3G-capable. It was launched at Php 19,999 but then the iPad 2 came out and the original iPad retailed for Php 19,999, so maybe Cherry Mobile was compelled to lower its price in order to sweeten the deal.

Cherry Mobile is a Filipino company that outsourced its production to China. The design is all-Filipino ingenuity. Thus, their Android line is something to be proud of. Not only is it affordable and yet of good quality; the Cherry Mobile Androids were designed by Filipino minds. Cherry Mobile impresses not only because it delivered affordable Androids, it impresses more because it is Proudly Filipino.

Filipino Androids, anyone?
