Update: Things Heating Up On The Tech Front, Android Possibly The Hottest
There's just so many exciting things on the Android front, that I don't know where to start. I was starting to apologize for dropping off at our MWC 2012 notes, when I lost the draft.
First time it ever happened, and I blame using too many tabs, 2 windows and Yahoo Messenger on this Windows machine. Makes me want to think about those machines that I heard now come with Android.
But enough of that, here is a bit of a braindump, to get my thoughts on the Android out of the way. Prepare to link-hop:
- Things are heating up in the smartphone wars. Everyone's beefing up their hardware, and soon, we're all going to be carrying phones and tablets more powerful than the most powerful PC's of 1995. And this is across the board: Windows Phone, Apple's iOS and Android included. Blackberry seems to be looking for leverage to regain ground that it's losing, and Symbian is fast becoming a memory.
- The patent wars are also heating up. Apple is out to cut through the Android's throat with patent cases getting bitterer and bitterer. (Sorry for the neologism right there.)
- There is a push to put the perfect Digital Camera on a phone. Nokia came out with a 41-Megapixel camphone, the Nokia Pureview 808, and HTC is now out with HTC ImageSense in its ONE line of phones.
- The Android OEMs are into making tablets to rival the iPad, and some of them are into creating hybrid machines.
- The Asus Transformer Pad line is looking awesome.
- Ubuntu will find itself on Androids soon.
- And oh, Samsung is coming out with a projector-phone, the Samsung Galaxy Beam.
Seems like we'll be getting more and more functionality on our phones this year and beyond. I won't be surprised if someday we'll have phones that can microwave as well as freeze food. :p
