Why You Should Trust A Cherry Mobile Android
Cherry Mobile, Torque and MyPhone, as we've mentioned in previous posts, have caused a stir in the Philippine mobile telephony market when they entered the scene. As is wont of Filipinos, we tend to be skeptical, even downright critical of things "Made In The Philippines."
We don't trust brands made in local shores, thinking that these are not going to be as sturdy as those made in, say, Japan.
However, there's one thing I've increasingly discovered, as my days in the Android beat add up: Cherry Mobile's Androids are worth trusting.
As a sidenote: I'm not sure how or where Torque gets their stocks, but given that their Androids are powered by MediaTek processors, I'm not sure if they perform as well as Androids powered by Qualcomm chips. I'm not sure if they have the same system of procuring models like Cherry Mobile, but we'll work on finding that out, in the days to come.
Now back to scheduled programming.
I started to develop a greater appreciation of my Cherry Mobile Nova, as well as the rest of CM's Android Lineup when I had to read through Geekier Chick's sources. I discovered that the Cherry Mobile Nova is actually a Spice Mi-300 in disguise.
In like manner, the other models in the Cherry Mobile Android Lineup are actually whitebox models, rebranded:
- Cherry Mobile Cosmo -- Spice Mi-310
- Cherry Mobile Nova -- Spice Mi-300
- Cherry Mobile Orbit -- Gigabyte GSmart G1310
- Cherry Mobile Stellar -- Gigabyte GSmart G1345
- Cherry Mobile Magnum HD -- Huawei Ideos X6
- Cherry Mobile Magnum 2x -- Micromax A85
If you take a look at the OEM brands that Cherry Mobile chose to use for its lineup, you'd realize how sturdy and actually impressive these are. These OEM brands are definitely not small fry, in terms of hardware. With Huawei Ideos X6 alone, you'd know that your machine has been crafted with attention to detail, and built to last.
When I realized that the Cherry Mobile Android Lineup had been chosen this way, I realized then that this lineup is not to be tossed out like their, sorry to use the term, "disposable" models. The Cherry Mobile Android Lineup was meant to give you your money's worth.
Suffice to say, hearing Sheila* tell me that Cherry Mobile's high-end lineup had the fewest returns of all the Cherry Mobile products was no longer a surprise. Rather, it was a confirmation about what I realized since coming across the information that Cherry Mobile's OEM's were among the better and sturdier brands of the international mobile phone market. And what I realized is this: Cherry Mobile's Androids are not meant to be crossed off one's list. In fact, they are good enough to compete with the likes of the established brands. If it's higher value for a good bargain that you're looking for, look no further than Cherry Mobile.

Small correction: the Spice Mi and Micromax brands are actually brands in India, and are not the original branding of the Cosmo, Nova, and 2x. In fact, these are further rebrandings of these phones similar to the way Cherry Mobile has rebranded them.
ReplyDeleteThe Cosmo's original branding is Cellon C8093. The Nova's original branding is Commtiva Z71. The 2x's original branding is Aliyun K-Touch 700.
Hi there, Unknown, thanks for providing us the info. :) I was wondering if these were, indeed the rebrands of the OEMs, and you confirmed my suspicions PLUS gave us the actual names of the OEM brands and models. :) Thanks much for this!
ReplyDeleteNice to know na pede mapag-katiwalaan ang Cherry Mobile!
ReplyDeleteAs of now, I'm really intrigued by the "Pinoy Phones" in the market today (myPhone, Cherry, Torque). I'm even considering buying one for myself!
Considering the specs of their phones, as well as the price, these are the things that really grabbed my attention. Although some people question the quality of the products, I still believe that you can't know for sure until you try it yourself!
Good read, keep it up!

ReplyDelete^True. Actually, Android Pub was a Cherry Mobile Nova user for around 3 or 4 months, then switched to a Cherry Mobile Orbit, and both his Cherry Mobile Androids had lasted close to a year by now.
I'm personally on Cherry Mobile Nova, since August 15, 2011, and I've been happy with it, despite some issues. It's not perfect, but it's not as defective, as, say, the Cherry Mobile Trident and Cherry Mobile Q1i's that I own. I have 2 Q1i's and only one has a working mic now. Cherry Mobile Trident, on the other hand, is probably Cherry Mobile's market killer, as it had a whole slew of defects. Twice sent back to Cherry Mobile, and now, it has another issue.
It's 13 days shy of turning a year since purchase and it was an awful year with it. I have to return this to the seller before it hits a year for one last trip to the service center before I may have to spend for monthly repairs on it.
Can I say that the Cherry Mobile Trident is a headache? YES, absolutely. But I am actually considering getting another unit, STILL, because I heard that it now retails for only Php 1,990 in Metro Manila, from Cherry Mobile concept stores. It's still a fair phone, and I do love its keypad and features. I just dread what's about to happen.
BUT, on the other hand, my Cherry Mobile Nova is a happy camper so far. Zero issues. See the vast difference?
Thus, because Cherry Mobile sources its phones and models as whitebox units, there are differences in the quality between units.
And I believe that it's safe to say that while the Cherry Mobile Trident may be the company's big mistake, the Cherry Mobile Android lineup may be its redeeming decision. :)
I currently a Cherry Mobile Stellar, in fact I'm using it to post this comment. I gotta say that I'm very impressed with these phones=)) even my friends who own like htc sensation and samsung galaxy are impressed. I bought this Dec 31,2011 and no real prpblems so far. It's pretty quick and the touch screen responsiveness is realu good. The phone is also very light. I read that the camera is very inferior but actually it's pretty decent. I use a lot now instead of my digicam and it suffices. The only problem I can say is the battery. I've noticed that it's quite inaccurate. I'm going to bring it to the cherry store to have it checked soon=)) overall, I really recommend the phone.
